THE OTHER EYE(I)- Chapter 1

Everything is picture perfect in the story you write. But is it so? In the story of your life? Aathi was confused and so was Priya. Chandu was caught in the ruckus, so was Vijay. The silent wind and the rocking swing witnessed everything from the position they stayed.. so was THE OTHER EYE(I)

They say it takes only a second to fall in love. Whoever said so, they are right. Maybe, not just a second but it is easy to fall in love. It may happen in the oddest circumstances and sometimes between the two persons who everyone thinks are incompatible. Love is like a drug and once it hits you, it sedate you and put you in a world of dreams. You are the king or queen there with the ultimate power. Everything in the kingdom happens in accordance with your wish. Everything feels picture perfect just like the way you wanted. But…………

Aathi played with her pen as she tried hard to remember the remaining lines. Priya had quoted these lines sometime back. Priya was good with words and the philosophy and she should be. She was an avid blogger with a plan to write her master piece in a few years’ time and stays on the opposite pole when compared to Aathi who herself was a dull doctor who specialised in psychiatry.  “When shall it see the lights?” Aathi always teased her whenever Priya opened her word document of the same in the laptop. She had also tried to peek in but in the next moment, Priya would literally jump and ram her onto the bed and scream, “Not yet”. Then, they would lie on the bed, staring the fan circling above them and then break into laughter episodes with no reason. Those were now little pearls of memories, Aathi sighed. She had left 2 years before on a rainy day like this.  That was when Chandu came along: her soul mate and the lovable banker.

Aathi wiped a drop of tear from the corner of her eyes. “ Time to get a new roomie”, she thought as she checked in her laptop to see if anyone replied for the ad she posted for getting a new roommate. After Priya, she had a few number of roommates during the period of 2 year but no one stayed for long. Either they would leave saying they could not adjust as they felt, living with a psychiatrist was too weird for them. Or some times, Aathi would ask them to leave as she was not able to cope with their attitude. She would remember Priya at times and whenever she hops in, would tell her about her issues with getting a long-term roommate and Priya would say “Doctor Psycho could only be dealt softly and that too only by a philosopher like me”. And again they break into laughter.

“I should check with her tomorrow. It’s been a month”. Aathi noted down in her mind as she checked her mobile to see if there were any messages. There were no messages or missed calls but the digital clock reminded her that it was 1 AM in the morning. She went to the other room and checked on her Grandmother who had come to stay with her for a month. She watched her sleep for some time and then sighed “Time to sleep, right”. She muttered, looking into the mobile and walking into her room, she kept her diary and mobile on the table, and turned off the bedside lamp.
The continuous loud knock on the door awoke Aathi. Tired and sleepy, she rubbed her eyes and took her phone. It was only 4 in the morning. The knocks got louder and fast now. Aathi pushed herself lazily out of her mattress and walked hurriedly to open the door and prevent the person on the other end from smashing her front door to pieces.

“Hey, you!” Aathi was stunned to see the person on the other side.
